At 29 weeks pregnant, you’ve been pregnant for around 7 months and are edging closer to the day you can greet your baby in the outside world. Your baby inside the womb at 29 weeks is developing rapidly and enhancing its different features every day.

At the start of the third trimester, you may start to notice some of the early pregnancy symptoms crop up again. Most of these symptoms are not a great cause for concern and are a normal part of the gestation process. Here are the most common signs of pregnancy at 29 weeks.

  • Rhinitis

Rhinitis, or nasal congestion, is a common pregnancy symptom at 29 weeks. The increased flow of blood and hormones can lead to the mucous membranes becoming swollen, leaving you with a stuffy nose. It affects around a third of mothers-to-be is a common symptom amongst pregnant women.

  • Hair Growth

Pregnant women have a dramatic increase in their blood volume to account for the extra fluids required to support an extra life. The extra blood volume means that more nutrients are being carried around your body at a faster rate. This can lead to an increase in hair growth, and you may find that you have to schedule an extra appointment maintain it at a suitable length.

  • Nail Growth

For the same reasons as above, you may experience your nails growing at a faster rate than usual. It’s also common for them to become brittle and dry as a result of the increased flow of pregnancy hormones.

  • Insomnia

Lack of sleep among pregnant women is a common pregnancy symptom and can be a result of various factors. Baby movements could be keeping you awake at night, or restless leg movement and back pain might be stopping you from getting a comfortable night’s sleep. If you’re concerned about your lack of sleep, speak to your doctor about the best way to move forward.

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome / Tingling Hands

A common twenty-eight-weeks pregnant symptom is to experience a tingling sensation in the hands. If you have felt this, you might have carpal tunnel syndrome. It is caused by an increased pressure on the median nerve – the only nerve in the body that passes through the carpal tunnel – and can leave you with a strange feeling in your hands.

At 29 weeks pregnant, you will be visibly pregnant. Both the weight gain and the baby bump will be showing at this point and you’ll need to buy some looser clothes if you haven’t done already. If you are on track, you will have gained between 25 to 35 pounds, and your baby will be thanking you for it. The extra weight is needed to support his or her development.

There will be other signs of pregnancy at week 29 that can affect your body. A lot of women start to experience uncontrollable urges to move their legs – otherwise known as restless leg syndrome (RLS). This is particularly common in the third trimester. Practicing Kegel exercises is good for countering this and can help to alleviate any pain experienced as a result of the condition.

At 29 weeks pregnant, your baby is around the same size as an acorn squash. It will weigh around 1.2 to 1.4 kg, and measures between 40 to 50 cm. It’s possible that your baby will triple in weight before the day of birth, which is remarkable considering there is less than 2 months to go.

As with previous weeks, your baby is getting more fat content around their body and is looking more like a little human with each passing day. Its hair may be starting to get some pigmentation, and its muscles and bones are getting stronger and firmer.

Week 29 Pregnant Ultrasound

If you didn’t have a check up with your obstetrician last week, you may have one scheduled for this week. It is normal to see your obstetrician every 2 weeks from the beginning of the third trimester.

A week 29 ultrasound, however, is not very common, and a scan will only be scheduled if your medical practitioner notices any discrepancies during one of the bi-weekly check-ups.
