You’ve been pregnant for around 8 months now, and your body has undergone many changes since you first found out about your baby. The day that your baby will come to greet you in the outside world is just around the corner and their body is preparing for it in many ways.


As the birth date grows nearer, it is a good idea to get better prepared for the final part of the third trimester, which can be quite taxing on your body and mind. This article will answer any questions you may have at 32 weeks pregnant.

The closer you get to the delivery day, the more intensely you will feel the pregnancy symptoms. The most common signs of pregnancy at week 32 are:

  • Increase in Bodily Fluids

One of the side effects of pregnancy is an increase in blood volume. In turn, this leads to more bodily fluids, including vaginal discharge, mucus, and sweat.

  • Fatigue

As your baby grows in size, it gets heavier. This extra weight can take its toll on your body, as your muscles have to work harder than usual. Fatigue is, therefore, a very common thirty-two weeks pregnant symptom, especially in the back and leg muscles.

  • Hemorrhoids

One of the more painful pregnancy symptoms at 32 weeks is hemorrhoids. These are varicose veins in the rectum and anus that are a cause of great discomfort for many pregnant women. If you are suffering from hemorrhoids, an ice pack may soothe the pain. If problems persist, consult your doctor for medical advice.

  • Braxton Hicks Contractions

With only 8 weeks to go until your baby enters the world, your body prepares for its arrival in a variety of ways. For many women, a common sign of pregnancy at 32 weeks is the occurrence of Braxton Hicks contractions. These are contractions which, although uncomfortable, are a normal pregnancy symptom and is merely a sign of your body preparing itself for labour.

  • Breast Leakage

If you notice fluids leaking from your breasts when you are in week 32 of pregnancy, don’t worry, this is a normal pregnancy symptom. This liquid, called colostrum, is a breast fluid that promotes growth in new-born babies. Colostrum, among other things, provides your 32-weeks-old fetus with nutrients to help it fight infections and promote immunity.

  • Heartburn and Indigestion

As progesterone (a pregnancy hormone produced by the placenta) courses through your system at increased levels, it slows down your digestive system. This can lead to heartburn, indigestion, constipation, and bloating.

Your Body at Week 32

If you haven’t documented your body changes yet, it is a good time to start at 32 weeks pregnancy. The third trimester is when your body will change the most, and having visual indicators is a good way to see the progress you make. Every woman, though, will have different sized baby bumps, and it is not a good idea to compare yours to a somebody else’s at 32 weeks pregnant. There is no normal or standard size that your bump should be. If you’re 32 weeks pregnant with twins, however, you can expect to have gained a bit more weight, as your body needs more energy to sustain the babies’ growth.

The extra weight you are carrying could also lead to leg cramps. Possible causes of this are a lack magnesium and calcium in your diet. Some pregnant women also suffer from restless leg syndrome (RLS), which is an incontrollable urge to move your legs and typically happens in the evenings or throughout the night.

Your 32-weeks-old fetus is now the same size as a squash. Everyday your baby grows in size and weight, but at this stage it is between 43 and 45 cm and weighs around 1.7 to 1.9 kg.

Your baby is preparing for the birth and is stretching its muscles every day. Its digestive system is ready for action and it continues to hone its five senses for use in the outside world. Most babies will be in the head down position at this point, but some (around 5 per cent) remain in the breech position (bottom down) for the duration of the pregnancy term.

Week 32 Pregnant Ultrasound

If you have an ultrasound at 32 weeks pregnant, you will likely see much movement from your baby. What was once a tiny little embryo in your womb has now sprouted functioning limbs, facial features, brain cells, and internal organs.

Your doctor is unlikely to schedule a 32-week ultrasound, unless there are complications, but there is the option of having a 3D/4D ultrasound with an independent supplier if you are curious about your baby’s progress.


As the 32-weeks pregnancy symptoms begin to intensify, your stomach could feel a little unusual. You might feel nauseated, constipated, or gassy. It’s quite probably that you will also experience some baby movements.

At 32 weeks pregnant, you should expect some more pregnancy symptoms, akin to those that you felt in the first trimester. There will be an intense few months ahead in the final part of the gestation period, so it is important to get plenty of rest.

Pregnancy can take a huge toll on your body, both physically and mentally. It is normal, therefore, to feel persistently exhausted and sapped of energy. Try to draw motivation from the finish line, which is now within your sight.

You will look very visibly pregnant at 32 weeks. Your stomach will have extended outwards to accommodate the growth of your baby in the womb, and you will likely have gained weight around the abdomen, too.

Tips for Week 32 of Pregnancy

  • Early Labour Signs

Learning about early signs of labour will leave you in the best possible position should you happen to experience any of them. Water-breaking, diarrhoea, and vaginal bleeding are just a few potential early signs of labour.

  • Stay Hydrated

With your baby pressed against your bladder, it may seem like a bad idea to drink water regularly. It is essential, though, for fuelling your bodily functions throughout the pregnancy.

  • Eat Plenty and Healthily

As you enter the final few months of pregnancy, it is important to fuel your body with the necessary nutrients it needs for the healthy development of your baby. Try to eat smaller amounts more frequently, as eating too fast can lead to heartburn and indigestion due to the progesterone slowing down your digestive system.
