Is there such thing as being 2 weeks pregnant? Well, yes and no. This is because many medical practitioners start counting the pregnancy timeline from the first day of your last period.
Is there such thing as being 2 weeks pregnant? Well, yes and no. This is because many medical practitioners start counting the pregnancy timeline from the first day of your last period. Yet, the baby will not be conceived for another 2 weeks. So, you are not actually pregnant during the first two official weeks of your pregnancy.
This doesn’t mean that your body won’t experience some changes during this period. Your body will begin adapting to the pregnancy process and you will potentially start noticing some early signs of pregnancy. In the second week of your pregnancy, you will have already completed your last menstruation cycle for a while, as your body prepares for ovulation and the fertilization of the egg.
2 Weeks Pregnancy Symptoms
Signs of pregnancy at week 2 are signs that your body is preparing for ovulation. Remember, you are not physically pregnant when you are two weeks pregnant. You might notice some slight changes in your body that are common for the first 2 weeks of pregnancy. Some common symptoms are:
- Tender breasts
Many women experience tenderness in their breasts in the period of time leading up to ovulation.
- Cervical mucus differences
Changes in a woman’s cervical mucus can be a good indication of when ovulation is about to occur. The mucus tends to become clearer and thinner as you get nearer to ovulation.
- Heightened sense of smell
One pregnancy symptom at week 2 when you are ovulating is an increased sense of smell. This is due to the fluctuations in hormone levels that happen during the ovulation period.
- Increased sex drive
Another one of the early signs of pregnancy at 2 weeks is noticeable increase in libido. This is due to hormonal changes.
- Basal body temperature fluctuations
Checking your basal body temperature (BBT) is one of the best ways to tell if you are ovulating. This is because your BBT reaches its lowest point at the moment of ovulation, before rising by almost a degree after ovulation has finished.
Your Body at Week 2
At the beginning of your pregnancy, there is still no baby in your body. What you might think are signs of pregnancy at week 2 will merely be symptoms of your usual cycle – pregnancy symptoms at week 2 are not yet possible.
It is usually the case that you won’t find out you’re pregnant until around 2 weeks after conception. Yet, changes can still occur to your body during the first 2 weeks of pregnancy. One egg has become dominant, and after the dominance of an egg has been established, it will release the estrogen hormone to aid the thickening of the lining of the uterus. In turn, this also leads to a rapid increase in the luteinizing hormone, which is responsible for encouraging the mature egg to break into the fallopian tube.
Baby Size at Week 2
There will be no noticeable bump at week 2 of the pregnancy, as the egg has not yet been fertilized and there is no fetus at this stage. The baby usually starts to become noticeable from the outside from week 4 onwards.
Week 2 Pregnant Ultrasound
Though you might think you’re experiencing some early pregnancy signs in week 2, an ultrasound will not be able to detect a baby as there is no such thing as a fetus at 2 weeks pregnant. Normally, the earliest sign of pregnancy can be detected using an ultrasound between weeks 4 and 6, when there a gestational sac is visible. In rare cases, an ultrasound at week 2 of pregnancy can allow doctors detect changes in your uterine lining thickness, though even this is unlikely to be one of the symptoms of pregnancy at 2 weeks.
It is not common to experience symptoms of pregnancy at 2 weeks pregnant, and your stomach should not be feeling any different to how you usually feel leading up to ovulation. Other sensations you may feel at this stage are tender breasts, heightened sense of smell, fluctuations in basal body temperature, and increased sex drive.
You should not expect to see many early signs of pregnancy at 2 weeks. You should also not expect to see a fetus at 2 weeks or experience early miscarriage symptoms at 2 weeks. A few things you can do to ease concerns at this stage are:
- Take an ovulation test.
- Monitor signs of ovulation.
- Keep track of your fertile timeline.
At this stage of the pregnancy you should feel normal and how you usually feel as you’re gearing up towards ovulation. No early symptoms will be felt at 2 weeks pregnant.
You will not notice a baby bump as one of the early signs of pregnancy in the first 2 weeks. This is because you are not pregnant during the first two weeks of being pregnant. There is no fetus at 2 weeks and, therefore, any bloating that you might be experiencing could be a regular symptom that you normally experience during ovulation.
Tips for Week 2 of Pregnancy
- Take your prenatal supplements
If you have been trying to get pregnant and have discussed prenatal supplements with your doctor, you should continue taking them as normal at 2 weeks pregnant.
- Quit smoking/drinking
This is good general advice at any period of life, but especially when you’re trying for a baby. Smoking and drinking can seriously harm your fertility. Smoking, particularly, can cause complications around the time of conception, increasing the risk of the embryo attaching outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy).
- Monitor any signs of ovulation
As mentioned above, signs of ovulation are a good indication of early signs of pregnancy at week 2. You may notice changes to your cervical mucus, tender breasts, and/or changes in your BBT. You can take an ovulation test for extra awareness of your ovulation.
At this stage, the best thing you can do is to remain calm. Stress-related enzymes can slightly inhibit the likelihood of becoming pregnant, so anything that you can do to help you relax (yoga, reading, walking, ) is a good idea at 2 weeks pregnant.
- Have regular sex
This might seem like an obvious one, but having regular sex at this stage will give you the best chance of conceiving at the optimal time of ovulation, increasing the likelihood of becoming pregnant.
